Community Health Worker Training for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH)

The Virginia Community Health Worker Association (VACHWA) is an authorized training Community Health Worker provider for the state of Virginia. Registration is open to individuals interested in a career in a public health field. If you have not submitted an interest form, please do so as soon as possible. This form provides registration insight into class size and student needs.

Once you complete this process, you will receive an invitation to attend our orientation session (exceptions apply). This process provides opportunities to learn more about the program's benefits and expectations.

Our curriculum covers seven (7) domains or core competencies approved by the Virginia Department of Health and their authorized entity, the Virginia Certification Board. During our classes, we will cover the following topics:

  1. Community Health Concepts
  2. Service Coordination and System Navigation
  3. Health Promotion and Prevention
  4. Advocacy, Outreach, and Engagement
  5. Communication
  6. Cultural Humility and Responsiveness
  7. Ethical Responsibilities and Professionalism

The first step to becoming a Certified Community Health Worker is to complete an intake. Once your intake is approved, we will provide you with a registration code to officialize your acceptance into our program. Please keep in mind that we offer scholarships and payment plans for those who qualify.

At the end of the training program, you will:

  1. Graduation Certificate
  2. Assistance with technical support: how to navigate the certification process, volunteer or employment opportunities, etc.
  3. FREE Membership to VACHWA
  4. Other (discounts, networking opportunities, and plenty more tangible and intangible resources)
