This training, tailored for Community Health Workers, will provide a general overview of SNAP eligibility guidelines, take an in-depth look into best practices for preparing patients for the application and interview process, and highlight current SNAP incentive programs. Participants will enhance their understanding of SNAP and acquire practical tools to connect patients to the program and additional food resources.

Module 1: Understanding SNAP Eligibility
  • Understand SNAP eligibility requirements and additional eligibility criteria specific to the state of Virginia.
  • Determine who is potentially eligible for SNAP and the conditions that lead to ineligibility of participating in the program.

Module 2: SNAP Application and Interview Best Practices
  • Discover the different methods for completing a SNAP application and how to maximize deductions to help increase benefit amounts.
  • Highlight the expectations of applicants once they have submitted an application to their local county department.
  • How to prepare applicants for the interview process to verify their application.

Module 3: Maximizing SNAP benefits and SNAP Incentive Programs
  • Discover additional benefit programs that can be combined with SNAP participation.
  • Familiarize yourself with SNAP incentive programs that encourage participants to purchase healthy foods.

Module 4: Connecting Patients to Food Resources
  • Understand the Federation’s food bank network and the ways in which patients can be connected to additional food resources.
