Facts and History about Certification and Recertification in Virginia
The Virginia Certification Board (VCB) is the credentialing authority for Community Health Workers. Come learn about VCB, its history, the purpose of credentials, and how a credential is developed.

The workshop is a joint partnership with the Virginia Community Health Worker Association.

Participants will
  • Learn about the certification history in Virginia.
  • Discuss the importance of certification or recertification from a professional perspective.
  • Learn the steps to attain Certified Community Health Worker (CCHW) credentialing and its process.
  • Discuss the importance of maintain the credential through the recertification process – what are the requirements, how to document requirements, and what it all means!

This will be an opportunity to ask all of your questions about CCHW certification.
Fundamental to having an effective community health worker is an effective community health workforce.

Fundamental to equipping that workforce is an effective certification process based upon demonstrated
practice competencies that are reflective of a high-quality, professional discipline. To that end,
demographic information will be presented on the current CCHW workforce – who are we, where do we
work and live, and much more.
